The Cohan Playroom
I recently took on my first paid design project (!!!) and of course I want to share it with all of you! I did a nursery design for the Cohan’s a few months back (I’ll have to share more about that now that this blog exists). It was so fun, so when they asked me to help design their playroom, I didn’t even have to think twice before saying yes. There’s nothing more fun than designing a playroom, I defy someone to disagree with that. Here is what I was working with:
The biggest challenge facing this design was the distance between me and the Cohan’s. We live in Florida and they live all the way in North Carolina, so of course I had to make all the selections remotely. They measured the room and sent me pictures and measurements of any furniture they wanted to keep in the space. First I created a mood board to nail down a color scheme and key pieces in the space. Then I created a digital rendering of the space, which was SO beneficial since it was basically like being there and getting to try different things out without a ton of purchases and subsequent returns.
Here’s what the mood board looked like:
They live in the mountains, so I thought it appropriate to bring some of the outdoors in with a vinyl mountain mural. This option saved us hundreds of dollars over using wallpaper! You can find links to all of the items used in this design below.

Here’s the playroom “in real life”:
How awesome did they do putting everything together? It looks just like the renderings! I couldn’t be happier with it and I hope it’s a well loved room in their home for years to come.
